2011 Acura MDX
Acura first launched its luxury crossover in 2001 to take on luxury utility vehicles like the Audi Q7, Lexus RX, Cadillac SRX and Infiniti FX -- yet with a decidedly biased sporty on-road behavior. Now the latest 2011 Acura MDX features the Super Handling AWD system and is tuned to tear up the asphalt, not the dirt. Acura developed the MDX with testing on Germany's Nurburgring -- which is why you won't find a low-range transfer case on the options list of the MDX.
2011 Acura MDX
The latest 2011 Acura MDX features a new 3.7-liter SOHC VTEC V6 with 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, which Acura says now features more heavy-duty parts for extra longevity. Acura has replaced the five-speed automatic transmission with a new six-speed transmission, bringing EPA fuel economy to an estimated 16/21 mpg for city/highway driving.
2011 Acura MDX
The 2011 Acura MDX is offered in five trim levels starting with the base model and moving up through the Technology, Technology and Entertainment, Advance and Advance and Entertainment groupings. The Technology package adds premium leather trim, navigation, and a 410-watt audio system, while the Advance package adds to that a collision-detecting system that pre-charges the brakes, adaptive cruise control, blind spot information and an active damper system for the suspension. The Entertainment package, which is offered with either the Technology or Advance groups, includes a rear seat monitor, DVD player, wireless headphones and heated rear seats.
2011 Acura MDX
In addition to drivetrain changes for the latest model, Acura seems to be building on the corporate look previewed by the TL and TSX -- as the MDX gains revisions to its front and rear fascia similar to Acura's latest offerings. The now-infamous Acura"beak" has been toned down here compared to some of its siblings, while new 19-inch wheels and brighter tail lamps round out the exterior changes.
2011 Acura MDX
Inside, the MDX features heated and (optionally) ventilated "Milano" leather seats, a thicker sport steering wheel, paddle shifters, new gauges, revised button placement in the center stack and overall upgraded materials. Acura's Real Time Weather and Traffic Rerouting features are newly available with the optional navigation system.

2011 Acura RDX

Wednesday 17 August 2011

2011 Acura RDX
The RDX is Acura's smallest SUV offering, and caters to those seeking the comfort and luxury for which Acura is known, but in a small package capable of leaving the pavement.
For the latest generation, the 2011 Acura RDX gained the addition of a front-wheel drive model (up until now the 2011 Acura RDX has only been available with Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system).
 2011 Acura RDX
The 2011 Acura RDX is powered by a 2.3-liter DOHC 16-valve in-line four-cylinder engine with i-VTEC valve control that combines Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) with Variable Timing Control (VTC).
With the variable flow turbo working in concert with i-VTEC, the RDX offers a good blend of performance and fuel economy. Rated output for the 2011 Acura RDX engine is 240 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. In terms of torque, the 2011 Acura RDX has the highest output of any engine in the Acura lineup, with 260 lbs.-ft. of torque SAE net at 4,500 rpm.
2011 Acura RDX
Thanks to a lighter curb weight, the FWD RDX posts better fuel efficiency numbers than its AWD counterpart, achieving ratings of 19 mpg city, and 22 mpg highway. The AWD model remains unchanged at 17/20 mpg city/highway.
A 5-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift is standard. The electronically controlled drive-by-wire throttle and transmission work together to execute shifts, resulting in exceptionally quick and smooth gear changes. The transmission can function as a conventional automatic transmission or can be shifted manually via steering-wheel-mounted paddles.
2011 Acura RDX
SH-AWD is Acura's patented all-wheel drive system that distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right rear wheels. The system's direct yaw control helps reduce understeer to enhance steering accuracy and add to total cornering power.
The 2011 Acura RDX's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure substantially contributes to passenger safety. ACE distributes collision loads through the body structure, leaving the passenger cabin more intact for improved occupant protection. Specially designed frame members make the RDX more compatible with smaller vehicles in the event of a vehicle-to-vehicle frontal collision.
2011 Acura RDX
While the RDX's sport-minded chassis remains the same, starting with the 2010 model the RDX features revised braking system components that deliver better feel and enhanced durability. The RDX also boasts several new standard interior features including a rear view camera system, electronic compass, a pull handle to make closing the rear hatch easier, auto-function headlights, ambient footwell lighting, a center console storage tray, improved cupholders, USB-port connectivity, and Note function for XM Radio. Additionally, the 2011 Acura RDXinterior gets subtle changes to the leather, resulting in a richer, more premium look to the interior seating surfaces.
2011 Acura RDX
Likewise, a specially engineered hood and other components help reduce the chances of pedestrian injury in the event of a collision with the vehicle.
Inside the 2011 Acura RDX is a full complement of passive safety features. Key technologies include the latest generation of dual-stage, dual-threshold airbags for the driver and front passenger, plus side airbags for the driver and front passenger and side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor for all outboard occupants. Child-seat mounting systems, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), allow the quick and secure installation of a child seats.
2011 Acura RDX
Pricing for the 2011 Acura RDX begins at $32,520 for the FWD model, and with the addition of SH-AWD the price is bumped to $34,520. Acura's Technology Package (The only option available on the RDX) can be had on either model for $3,100.

2011 Acura RL

2011 Acura RL
Acura has unveiled an updated (lightly) design for the flagship 2011 Acura RL - the design, clearly derivative of the previous model, features what Acura calls a new signature look to the front fascia.
That new signature look consists of a matte-silver finish wide bar across the grille along with thin silver bars in the upper and lower front fascia. A lighter finish silver trim surrounds the new grille.
 2011 Acura RL
2011 Acura RL matte finish is repeated at the rear end in a lip that goes across the trunk above the license plate. The tail lamps combine crystal clear lenses with traditional red.
An all-new 3.7-liter V6 engine highlights performance upgrades. The 300-horsepower, 271 lb-ft. of torque SOHC motor features Honda's VTEC system. Unlike on the old 3.5-liter powerplant, the 3.7-liter unit uses VTEC on both the intake and exhaust and still meets ULEV-2 emissions standards.
2011 Acura RL
Gone is the five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission, in is a new six-speed Sequential SportShift to take over shifting duties for all models. Like the five-speed transmission it replaces, the new unit with an extra cog includes "smart" F1-style steering wheel-mounted paddles and a new straight-gate console-mounted shift lever.
The latest generation 2011 Acura RL also features the availability to use the paddle shifters when the shifter is in drive, not just manual mode. The system allows the driver to up or downshift on the fly -- such as for passing maneuvers -- but will revert back to automatic mode if it detects the driver is no longer shifting.
2011 Acura RL
Suspension modifications and steering upgrades are also included. The 2011 Acura RL continues to use Acura's SuperHandling all-wheel-drive, but has more of a rear-drive bias than the previous generation.
Inside, the RL benefits from changes including a new interior color (Sea Coast), new Dark Burlwood textured trim, improved feel thin-thread stitching for the steering wheel and a new bright silver color for the dash meters. Other changes include the addition of available back-up sensors, a revised back-up camera angle to improve rearward visibility and improved dialing function for Bluetooth HandsFreeLink.
2011 Acura RL
The latest-gen RL is available in three variations: 2011 Acura RL, RL with Technology Package and RL with Advance Package. All RL's feature the 3.7-liter V6 engine, Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, leather trimmed interior, power actuated front seats, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control system, power moonroof, power windows, Acura/Bose Surround Sound audio system, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink connectivity and a Multi-Information Display (MID) that allows easy access to multiple electronic functions.
An available Technology Package includes a satellite-linked Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting, AcuraLink Real-Time Weather, rear view back-up camera, back-up sensors, Active Front Lighting System (AFS), ventilated front seats, and a simulated burlwood accented steering wheel and shift knob. The top RL trim is the Advance Package which adds Acura's Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), power folding side mirrors and genuine maple wood instrument panel trim.
2011 Acura RL
2011 Acura RL Wheels feature a new 18x8-inch diameter 15-spoke aluminum design, matched with performance-minded Michelin Pilot all-season tires. While the new wheels add a look of visual sophistication, they also deliver mechanical sophistication thanks to the first-ever use of resonator wheel technology. In an effort to quell road noise transmitted to the RL's cabin, the new noise reducing wheel uses a polypropylene Helmholtz resonator that encircles the center portion of the inside of the wheel. Such resonator wheel technology significantly lowers middle frequency noise (between 100 and 500 hertz). Combined with the added use of insulation material on the floorboard areas of the RL, there is a 1.3 dB reduction in interior noise— representational of a 15-percent improvement.
Braking comes from a four-wheel disc brake system utilizing four-piston aluminum front brake calipers matched with 12.6-inch diameter ventilated front brake rotors and 12.2-inch rear rotors with single-piston calipers. Braking is aided by four-channel anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.
2011 Acura RL
When equipped with the Advance Package, linked to the RL's braking system is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) that uses a grille-mounted millimeter-wave radar unit to monitor the distance between the 2011 Acura RL interval between it and the vehicle directly ahead. If following distance becomes too close, the ACC system warns the driver and applies the brakes if necessary.
On the safety front, active head restraints are also newly standard.

With wagons appearing to come back in favor in the U.S., Acura has joined the growing trend with its all-new 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon. Based on the 2011 Acura TSX sedan platform, Acura says the Sport Wagon is intended to offer a balance of a dose of driving performance and more versatile cargo carrying capability than the standard sedan.
2011 Acura TSX wagon
Pricing for the Sport Wagon starts at $31,820, which includes a mandatory $860 destination charge. The pricing represents a roughly $1,400 premium over Sport Wagon's sedan counterpart.
The $3,650 Technology Package mostly mirrors the conventional four-door 2011 Acura TSX by adding goodies like navigation, a rearview camera, an upgraded ELS audio system. Unlike the sedan, a power liftgate comes with the package.
2011 Acura TSX wagon
The 2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon comes with just one powertrain configuration: A five-speed automatic transmission mated to a 2.4-liter, 201-horsepower four-cylinder gasoline engine, which Acura says is good for 30 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg in the city.
Like the sedan, the Sport Wagon is sporting an all-new front fascia that includes a revised chin spoiler, new fog light garnish assembly and an updated grille. The updated front end teams with new (to the sedan) underbody panels to improve aerodynamics.
2011 Acura TSX wagon
Now, when one opts for a wagon over a sedan they are most likely doing so with utility and hauling in mind, so the Sport Wagon features 60.5 cubic feet of rear cargo area (with rear seats folded down; 25.8 cu-ft with the seats up). Loading the vehicle will have to come through the wagon's rear opening height of approximately 28-inches.
2011 Acura TSX wagon
In addition to the traditional rear storage space, the Sport wagon also features four hidden compartments for out-of-sight storage. A 2.4 cu-ft storage area is located beneath a lift-up hatch within the load floor. Smaller items can be placed in a 0.2 cu-ft storage area (hidden by a removable panel) located in the side panel on the driver side, or in one of two 13-inch long storage areas near the main in-floor storage area.
2011 Acura TSX wagon
The rear seats come in a 60/40 fold-down design, allowing one section to be lowered to generate more cargo room while the other section can remain in the up position to accommodate a rear seat passenger. Or, both seats can be folded down to attain the maximum cargo area replete with a load-flat floor that is nearly 70-inches long, complete with a variety of tie-down hooks for keeping cargo items secure.
